Of Mice & Men members Aaron Pauley and Valentino Arteaga have spoken in a new interview about former front man Austin Carlile’s departure and the new musical direction of the band.

In a brand new interview with Hot Topic, Of Mice & Men drummer Valentino Arteaga spoke about the bands new direction of sound, saying “We needed to come to the table and just bring something powerful, and make a strong statement…”

“… the best laid plans Of Mice & Men often go awry, and all we can do is use our music in order to guide us through that.”

Long term Bassist and new Of Mice & Men vocalist Aaron Pauley added that, “We’ve got a bunch of songs that we have demoed, a bunch more that are kind of skeletons of songs that are halfway done that are demoed that we’re working on finishing.”

Valentino then continued and explained that “We kind of wanted to just give everyone a taste of the vibe of what Of Mice & Men is going to sound like going forward.”

“Unbreakable has been getting a lot of love from the fans… we didn’t really think it was going to even move the needle, or even be something people would talk a few weeks after it,” added Aaron Pauley. “It was a scary thing to do, but at the same time we knew it was the right thing to do.”

“We’re always writing too, so it’s an exciting process to actually get the music out and show everyone what we’ve been working on,” added Valentino.

Following the 2nd release, Of Mice & Men’s Aaron Pauley opened up to Rolling Stone India back in May about a potential new album fully embracing Pauley on vocals.

“We’ve got a ton of songs; we’re always writing and we’re always creating. What we like to do is have a ton of songs and then from that kind of whittle it down and almost try to discover the threads in between rather than starting with the thread and weaving the songs through them.” he says.

“I think that in a way surprises us a lot more than just coming up with an initial theme. We discover that maybe we were trying to say this all along. Maybe it’s too early to say that an album thematically has taken shape, but as of right now the songs we are putting out are very much about continuing the fight.”

“I think an album is definitely forming,” Says Pauley.
