Warped Tour Re-Instates Free Parent Ticket Amidst Backlash

By  |

From 2015 till last year the Vans Warped Tour had started a program that allows a parent to come for free with their child who had a purchased ticket. The parents could then enjoy reverse day care, an area set up for parents to relax and spend time while their child enjoyed their day, or some watched bands with their child also! This year Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman said that the free parent ticket would now be omitted but should a parent come the reverse day care would still be available. The statement is below:

“DO PARENT’S GET IN FOR FREE?
No – unfortunately we are no longer offering the FREE Parent Ticket.
Over 21 years the Warped Tour audience has always been for the counter culture teenager. As our audience grew up and changed and as new fans came to the shows, we’ve worked hard to adjust with them and continue to keep the tour relevant.
In 2015 and 2016, we tested implementing a “Parent Get’s In For Free” program that allowed (1) parent to be admitted to the show for Free if they were bringing a child that had a paid ticket.
Unfortunately in 2017 and moving forward, the tour is “going back to our roots” and with the booking of a more balanced lineup including many legacy acts, we are no longer offering the FREE Parent Ticket.
However, any parents who buys a ticket will still be able to come to our Reverse Daycare Tent where they can hang out, watch TV, and keep an eye on their child.”

As you would predict, this spawned backlash from kids and parents alike worried they would now no longer be able to attend the punk rock summer camp this year. That changed today to allow a parent in, with strict guidelines that is to NOT be taken advantage of, Lyman said in a tweet:

He also encouraged everyone to spread the word to let everyone know about the re-instatement plus stricter guidelines:

I’m sure some happy kids and parents are thankful also! So if this applies to you whether you’re eagerly waiting your first time going or you’re a parent who went in the 90s and want to take your child, share this around! Tickets to the show can be purchased HERE¬†.¬†
